Genbu Apothecary Shop

Genbu Apothecary Shop

The shop

Genbu is a rather small shop situated in the Shopping Gate. Along the side wall is a large counter with various tools used to measure and mix medicines along with a small potted bamboo and several beckoning cats, makeni neko, welcoming all who come to visit. Among the collection is a particularly distinct one, a big fat red one, sitting in the center of the white ones. It seems to be the happiest one, sitting amongst its peers and wishing all who visit good luck and health.

Inside the counter's display case are various sorts of figures along with some more maneki neko holding different coins, though none looked quite like the tubby red one on the counter. Smaller bottles line the shelves as well as small satchels used for carrying the bottles and loose medicines. Several empty tubes lie on their sides, waiting to be filled with special lotions. A small section houses a relatively large collection of incense and various burners.

Along the back wall sits a huge apothecary chest, measuring around 6 feet tall. Large jars with some sort of spices and herbs preserved within sit on top of the chest. The shelf next to the chest is also lined with jars of varying sizes with various ingredients within. Some jars are labeled with things such as oleander, thyme, mint, and cinnamon but most are unlabled. At the top of the shelves sits a large jar filled curiously of just salt along with a very large fat calico maneki neko grinning at anyone who comes in.

What to buy

Genbu specializes in traditional Asian medicines, particularly those which stemmed from China and migrated into Japan formally called kampo medicine. The medicines involve various natural ingredients, everything from flowers to roots like cinnamon, herbs and the occasional table food like salt. The medicines often have various effects though some are highly specialized with one purpose alone. Remedies include helping with itchy skin, indigestion, restlessness, and anxiety, among a wide variety of other things.

Lotions are also available. Most are medicated but there are some there purely for enjoyment, basic formulas for dry skin mixed with incense for unique smells. Incense is also available alone. Various types are premade though specialized scents can be mixed on the spot.

Displayed within the case are various trinkets and charms. Maneki neko are for various purposes, usually to welcome in good fortune or good health. Various other trinkets, such as a stack of turtles, are for welcoming in a good love life.

All medicines are made within the shop. Most are made on spot, though a few common remedies are already prebottled and ready to go. Currently the shop only has traditional asian remedies, though this may expand with future employees.
